The China Connection

One of the first American women to start trade talks with China.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Janie Sykes-Kennedy was a consultant to the Booker T. Washington Foundation which focused on economic development for minorities in America. In the late 1980s, she was invited by the U.S. Housing & Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Commerce as one of 14 delegates to go to the People's Republic of China on the first trade mission of American women. After that trip, she secured a contract from the China Building Technology Center and started a new company, China Today, Inc., which for five years distributed Building in China.

 

In the 1980s, Sheila Kennedy studied at Heibei University in the People’s Republic of China. Both Teresa Kay-Aba Kennedy and Sheila have attended the World Economic Forum "Summer Davos" in China.
